Homecare Verona, WI: Seniors Engaged in Their Health

Many senior citizens fail to care for their own health as they get older. They start to accept the fact that their health is going to decline because they have aged. However, they don’t have to experience health issues sooner because of this. There are some ways that you and home care providers can keep your elderly loved one engaged in their health.

Communication with Doctors

Your elderly loved one might not talk much with their doctors. If this is the case, it is up to you and their home care providers to pay attention to their health. It is up to you to remember what your elderly loved one has told you about symptoms they have experienced. You can communicate with your elderly loved one’s doctor to ensure that the best care is given at all times.

Follow the Orders Given

If your elderly loved one’s doctor gives them certain orders, be sure these are followed. For instance, if their doctor says to stop taking a certain medication and switch to another one, be sure these medications are changed. You can take the old medications out of your elderly loved one’s home to ensure they don’t take them by accident. The new medications can be put into your loved one’s pillbox if they have one.

Recognizing Signs

There are many health issues that your elderly loved one could face. It is important that you and their home care providers are watching out for the signs of these issues. If any health issues are seen, that don’t go away within a couple of days, you should schedule an appointment for your loved one. However, if your elderly loved one is experiencing chest pains, sudden vision or hearing loss, or other emergent health signs, they should seek emergency care right away.

Regularly Checking in with Your Loved One

If you don’t see your elderly loved one often, you could easily miss the health issues they are having. It is important that you or home care providers are regularly checking in with your elderly loved one. If you can’t be there, you can have a home care provider check in or even spend some time with your loved one to watch for any health signs that might be happening.

Conclusion

These are some of the ways that you can keep your elderly loved one engaged in their health. Even if they can’t remember to follow up with doctors or take the appropriate medications, you and their home care providers can encourage them to do what is ordered. Remember, if there are new health signs that are noticed, you should schedule your elderly loved one a doctor’s appointment.
